Apple iPhone 4 Press Conference

Just over a month ago, the iPhone 4 was officially announced.  Since its release, there have been complaints about the functionality of the new antenna design.  After telling people they were simply holding it wrong, and that it was partially a software issue, Apple held a press conference today to make an official statement on the issue, starting with this:

First Look at Green Lantern

Green Lantern is one of my top-three favorite superheroes.  I have not loved all iterations of Green Lantern, but the three greatest to ever where the green battery (Alan ScottHal JordanKyle Rayner) are some of my favorite characters in both the DC and Marvel universes.  Each of these three has his own character traits that both sets him apart from the other Green Lanterns, and binds him to them.  Reading any of these Green Lantern comics, you can see the differences in their personalities, and their approaches to solving problems, but the sheer willpower and dedication they all possess makes them one.

1 vs. 100 vs. Microsoft

Lindsey and I both love trivia shows; They’re an opportunity for us to show off just how much useless bullshit we store in our heads (a lot).  When we saw that Xbox Live had an online interactive trivia show in the form of 1 vs. 100 (based on the TV trivia show of the same name), who were we to say no?  We jumped in to the first season of 1 vs 100 a little late, due to when we got Xbox Live, but played quite a bit of the subsequent off-season and a great deal of season 2.

And now it’s cancelled.

Sir Anthony Hopkins as Odin in Thor

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, or have no interest in comic book movies, you’re well aware that there is a Thor movie in the works. Details have been scarce, and so have images…until today.

Slated for a summer 2011 release, Marvel Studios confirmed today that, like the upcoming Captain America movie, Thor will be released in 3D (ugh). Personally, I’m sick of 3D, so that tidbit of news was a major turn off, but fortunately there was more.

Sir Anthony Hopkins, Mr. Hannibal Lecter himself, is playing the role as Odin. If you’re unfamiliar with Norse mythology, Odin is the equivalent of Zeus, making him the chief god. So far, the only image released has been of Thor, portrayed by Chris Hemsworth. Fans of the Thor comic series, and those eagerly anticipating the movie, were given a second image today that featured Odin:

What. The. HELL! I don’t know about you guys, but I’m not excited by this. The armor is too much, and honestly, a simple breastplate would have done. Simple, not complicated. What we have here has a strange mech look to it, and reminds of me clock gears. Also, what is up with that eye patch? Yeah, Odin has one eye, OK. But a shiny, bright gold eye patch/monocle? C’mon people…how difficult would it have been to replicate this Odin:

Also, if you notice, we get our first look at Loki, portrayed by Tom Hiddleson, so that was nice. I’m assuming, that since everybody is together, and Thor and Loki aren’t going for each other, that maybe this shot is taken from the beginning of the movie. If I’m correct, then maybe where they are is Asgard? I always imagined Asgard would look more Nordic, with a lot of wood, tables everywhere, things hanging from the walls, and have this badassViking feel to it. From what I am able to see, which honestly isn’t much, it has this cold feel about it and appears to be concrete.

Anyways, Hopkins is a phenomenal actor, so I’m not worried about that at all. I guess I’ve been disappointed by so many comic book movies (X-Men series, Fantastic Four, etc), other than Iron Man and Watchmen. Hopefully the movie is solid, we don’t get dicked over like Edward Norton did, and we better get winged helmets!

Central Valley Buzz with Chuck Leonard

Yesterday, Chris and I went on to Central Valley Buzz to promote our site and help spread the word about our Blogathon fundraiser for One Love for Chi. Since we haven’t been on anything live in awhile, I was a little anxious, but I think we did a great job.

For those of you who were unable to tune in, the repeat already aired early this morning, but I can give you a rundown of what went on. When we got there, the room was rather warm due to all of the lighting, and the fact that there was a guy prepping for a cooking segment. It also didn’t help that he was making a salsa with Habanero peppers, so while we were waiting to go on, my eyes started to sting a little.

Once we were on air, I got a little tripped up at first, but Chris was there to explain the history of World of Meh!, and what inspired us to start it. We, honestly, started this site just as a creative outlet, so clearly things have evolved! After we described what our site is all about, we were kept on for a second segment that touched on how the two of us met (through an online dating site, if you must know), and then we shared with everybody the amazing story of Chi, his progress, and our efforts to help him.

Chuck Leonard, host of the show, autographed, on air, a pair of clippers that were used on a recent show to shave his head. He then donated them with the hope that it will help attract more people to our site, and boost donations. Pretty awesome, eh? After we we were done, I logged in to check our site states and there was a considerable spike in hits, so thank you Chuck!

If you are a fan of Central Valley Buzz, or are an evil scientist that wants a piece of his DNA to do some crazy cloning experiment, donate to our One Love for Chi fundraiser and earn a shot at winning those clippers, amongst other prizes!

More Hulk Drama

Back on Sunday, news broke out that Marvel had dropped Edward Norton as the Hulk in the upcoming Avengers movie. Originally, it was reported that the decision was based on Norton’s alleged inability to work well as part of an ensemble, amongst other things. Norton’s agent, Brian Swardstrom, is singing a different tune.

Yesterday, Brian issued a statement saying this:

“This offensive statement from Kevin Feige at Marvel is a purposefully misleading, inappropriate attempt to paint our client in a negative light.  Here are the facts:  two months ago, Kevin called me and said he wanted Edward to reprise the role of Bruce Banner in The Avengers.  He told me it would be his fantasy to bring Edward on stage with the rest of the cast at ComiCon and make it the event of the convention.  When I said that Edward was definitely open to this idea, Kevin was very excited and we agreed that Edward should meet with Joss Whedon to discuss the project.  Edward and Joss had a very good meeting (confirmed by Feige to me) at which Edward said he was enthusiastic at the prospect of being a part of the ensemble cast.  Marvel subsequently made him a financial offer to be in the film and both sides started negotiating in good faith.  This past Wednesday, after several weeks of civil, uncontentious discussions, but before we had come to terms on a deal, a representative from Marvel called to say they had decided to go in another direction with the part.  This seemed to us to be a financial decision but, whatever the case, it is completely their prerogative, and we accepted their decision with no hard feelings.

We know a lot of fans have voiced their public disappointment with this result, but this is no excuse for Feige’s mean spirited, accusatory comments.  Counter to what Kevin implies here, Edward was looking forward to the opportunity to work with Joss and the other actors in the Avengers cast, many of whom are personal friends of his.  Feige’s statement is unprofessional, disingenuous and clearly defamatory.  Mr. Norton talent, tireless work ethic and professional integrity deserve more respect, and so do Marvel’s fans.

Brian Swardstrom
WME”

Norton, wanting to add his thoughts on the matter, took to his Facebook yesterday and said this to his fans:

It’s pretty obvious that Norton and his team were fully on board, and I’m getting the feeling that there is more to this than Marvel is letting on. Of course, I could be wrong, but I somehow doubt that. How awesome would that have been though, for the people at Comic Con? Sadly, that’s never going to happen.

Movie website Chud is saying that there are rumors about Joaquin Phoenix being the next actor to be offered the Banner role. We all remember his meltdown, fake or not, and he did say he was retiring from acting to be a rapper, although that could be fake too. Regardless, Phoenix is a damn good actor. Just watch his role in Gladiator, and tell me that he didn’t do a great job. My only problem is this: I don’t picture Phoenix as Dr. Bruce Banner.

Whatever happens, and if Phoenix is the guy who surprises fans at the Comic Con panel for Avengers, I sure as fuck hope we don’t see this in the movie:

Changes to Commenting

We love comments. We want you to comment. We wish you guys and gals would comment. So, what have we done to help encourage that? Removed the function where you have to register and be logged in to do so.

Originally, we set that into place because we were getting loads of spam comments, and it made our site cluttered and really shitty looking. Problem with that, is if you are like the two of us, you won’t bother registering for a site in order to leave a comment. You’ll just say “fuck it”. I do it all the time, believe me.

Anyways, our writers really put a lot into their articles, along with the ones Chris and I put up, and we want to know your opinions. This change is to help encourage that ‘community’ feel, so the free commenting system will be in effect for awhile. Should we start to get bombarded with spam, like in the past, we will look into something a little different, so for now…comment your asses off!
