A few minutes ago, I was on Twitter and something caught my eye: a tweet from One of Swords about Soundgarden. Having been a fan for almost two decades, I had to read on some more. What I stumbled upon via his blog was something so magical, and so incredible I just had to share it with you all.
For those who plan on picking up a copy of Activision’s Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock on September 28th for either PS3, Wii, or Xbox 360, not only will you get the full new Soundgarden album ‘Telephantasm,’ but you’ll also get the DLC of it to play as well.
‘Telephantasm’ is said to be like a “greatest hits” album for the guys, and will feature tracks like Black Hole Sun and Spoonman. Also included is a previously unreleased song titled Black Rain that was recorded way back in 1991 when they were working on Badmotorfinger.
So, let me break this down for you: buy a game that already has 90 songs ready to play at regular retail price, get a CD of music for an album that won’t be released for another week at no additional cost, and get the full 12 song DLC of said album for no additional cost. Sounds like win to me!
I’d highly suggest pre-ordering a copy of the game since this deal is limited to the first million copies of the game, and because of this deal, ‘Telephantasm’ will go platinum when the game ships.
For more details, check out the article USA Today did, including an interview with some of the members of Soundgarden.
CORRECTION: It seems as if the rumors about getting the DLC for free were sadly wrong. The DLC for ‘Telephantasm’ will be available at launch, however those who wish to have access to it will need to purchase it. Currently there is no price available, but when there is, we’ll let you know.
This is, quite simply, amazing.
I know, right? This also helped ease my fears about the upcoming Soundgarden album. Originally I was under the impression that they were actually recording brand new tracks, and I was so afraid that it just wouldn’t be the same and my perception of the band would be ruined forever…but I’m totally down with having Black Hole Sun all over again
I’m really sorry about getting that DLC detail wrong — I really did think that was the case and then I went back and double-checked and found that wasn’t it. I’m still happy about it as a Soundgarden fan, but yeah, DLC included would have been epic.
Oh there is no need for you to apologize Dan. I’m still excited about getting a free album with a kick-ass game! I’ve always preferred Guitar Hero to Rock Band, but don’t let the guys at Harmonix know. Because of that preference, I can’t wait to get my hands on Warriors of Rock.
I agree that the DLC would’ve been epic, but at least there is still the option for me to pay for it should I want to (and I do).
