Dead Rising 2 Details From Gamescom

With so much information coming to us from Gamescom in Germany, it can be hard to sift through to find the gold. Well, here’s some golden information about Dead Rising 2.

You may remember what we told you about Dead Rising 2: CASE ZERO last month.  Well, that’s just a taste of the zombie-annihilating goodness that’s to come in Dead Rising 2. In Capcom’s sequel to their platinum-selling hit, Dead Rising, players will find themselves filling the shoes of Chuck Greene, former Motocross champion and loving father.  Chuck has made his way to America’s newest gambling mecca, Fortune City, to compete in a zombie-filled game show called “Terror Is Reality.”  The show dares contestants to survive in order to win big cash prizes and delight television fans across the planet. Unfortunately, Chuck has a greater motivation: the life of his daughter Katey.  Katey has been bitten by a zombie, and requires daily doses of the anti-zombification drug Zombrex to keep her from joining the hordes of cannibalistic, mindless murderers.

Chuck’s time in Fortune City is not all slot machines and showgirls.  An outbreak of zombies occurs, and Chuck finds himself forced to survive for 72 hours, bringing the (in)famous “ticking clock” scenario back from the (un)dead.  So, not only does Chuck have to fight off hordes of zombies and try to save his daughter, he must also race against time and try to unravel the greater conspiracy behind the outbreak. Players will control Chuck as he shoots, stabs, carves and drives his way through enemies in order to beat the clock and survive 72 hours in the darkly comedic, no- holds-barred confines of Fortune City.

Although fans of the series will recognize a very familiar style of gameplay, Capcom promises a good deal of new features.  Inexperienced zombie killers who may need some help or hardened veterans who simply want to share the zombie-bashing fun with a friend will now be able to play in online 2-player co-op. Players will be able to utilize an “in-game transceiver” to call for assistance at any time. If your friend accepts your invite, they will arrive by your side for double the pleasure, double the fun.

One of players favorite parts of the original Dead Rising was the ability to turn anything, from a beach umbrella to a shopping cart, into a utensil of ultimate zombie-undoing.  Capcom is allowing players to take this aspect one step further.  With 2 objects, a roll of tape, and a bit of imagination, players can now essentially make twice the weapons they had to begin with.  For example, a piece of wood and a lawnmower become a Portamower, the handheld mower that cuts zombies down to size in an instant, while a garden rake and car battery combine to create an electrified zombie prod. The more combo weapons a player uses, the more Prestige Points (PPs) they will gain along the way in order to level up Chuck.

Dead Rising 2 shambles its way onto PC, XBox 360, and PS3 on September 28th of this year.  Until then, I hope these screens can assuage your hunger for braaaaiiins…
